Pleasant Brook Association Information Pages

The Pleasant Brook Association (PBA) was established to preserve the architectural and landscape style of the Pleasant Brook neighborhood in Lexington, Massachusetts. For that purpose, it was given authority that covers certain property use restrictions over and above the standard town zoning requirements. Some owners' deeds spell these out in detail; others contain mysterious references to "restrictions more particularly set forth in Deed Document XXXXXX."

Regardless of its official rights and duties, however, the PBA has generally operated in a casual and friendly manner. Its everyday persona is more that of a social facilitator than a compliance officer.

As some residents have left the neighborhood over the years and others have moved in to take their places, general knowledge about the PBA has faded a little. The purpose of this website is to provide detailed answers to questions that sometimes come up:

What exactly is the Pleasant Brook Association? How does it work?

Who belongs to it?

What are those restrictions? What do we need approval for? How do we get it?
